Official Stadium Regulations β€” FIFA 2026

Know the Rules
Before You Enter.

Every World Cup 2026 stadium has strict entry requirements enforced by FIFA and local authorities. What you bring, when you arrive, and how you behave inside the ground β€” all of it is covered here.

16 Stadiums Covered
Arrive 2–3 Hours Early
Zero Tolerance Policy
Bag Size Limit: 30Γ—20Γ—15cm
These are official FIFA 2026 stadium regulations β€” not suggestions. Security staff have the authority to deny entry for any violation without refund. Rules apply equally to all fans regardless of ticket category. Regulations may be updated closer to the tournament β€” always check the official FIFA website before matchday.
Entry Policy
What You Can & Cannot Bring
Security checks are mandatory for all fans. These rules are enforced at every gate across all 16 host stadiums.
βœ“ Permitted Items
These are allowed through security β€” subject to inspection
Valid match ticket β€” digital or printed. Must match your photo ID exactly.
Government-issued photo ID β€” passport, national ID, or driver's licence.
Small bag β€” transparent bags preferred. Maximum 30Γ—20Γ—15cm. See bag policy section.
Sealed water bottle β€” plastic only, max 500ml. Purchased before entry. No glass.
National team merchandise β€” scarves, flags (without poles), face paint, replica kits.
Mobile phones and cameras β€” personal use only. No professional camera equipment or detachable lenses over 5cm.
Essential medication β€” with valid prescription or medical documentation. Declare at entry.
Baby items β€” nappies, formula, baby food in sealed containers. Prams checked at gate.
Hats, sunglasses, sunscreen β€” strongly recommended for outdoor stadiums in June heat.
Earplugs and ear defenders β€” permitted for fans with sensory sensitivities. Bluetooth headphones allowed.
βœ— Strictly Prohibited
Confiscated at entry β€” no exceptions, no refunds
Alcohol β€” no external alcohol permitted. Beer is sold inside select stadiums per local law. Mexico City stadiums are fully dry.
Flares, fireworks, smoke bombs β€” zero tolerance. Criminal charges apply. This includes small personal fireworks.
Outside food and drinks β€” no food, beverages, or energy drinks brought from outside. Sealed water (500ml max) is the only exception.
Flags on rigid poles β€” flags are welcome but poles must be removed. Flexible fabric-only banners are permitted.
Professional camera equipment β€” DSLRs with detachable lenses, tripods, monopods, GoPro chest mounts, drones.
Vuvuzelas and air horns β€” prohibited as they create excessive noise levels that constitute a health hazard to other fans.
Full-size umbrellas β€” compact foldable umbrellas are permitted. Full-length umbrellas with pointed tips are not.
Offensive or political clothing/banners β€” any material deemed discriminatory, political, or offensive to other fans or groups will be confiscated and may result in ejection.
Animals β€” no pets permitted. Service animals require advance registration with the venue and official documentation.
Weapons of any kind β€” including multi-tools, large scissors, pepper spray, knives. Security will call police immediately.
Pro Tip
Wear your team colours and minimise your bag. The fastest way through security is a transparent bag with minimal contents. Fans with large or opaque bags cause the longest queues. Leave everything non-essential at your hotel.
Bag Policy

Not Permitted
Large Bag / Luggage
Over 50 cm any dimension
Suitcases, large duffel bags, holdalls β€” all refused
No luggage storage is provided at any venue
Coming from airport? Drop bags at hotel first
Book luggage storage near the stadium in advance
Important β€” No Left-Luggage at Venues
None of the 16 World Cup stadiums offer bag storage or left-luggage facilities. If your bag is too large, you will be turned away and must find storage yourself. Plan ahead β€” use your hotel or a nearby luggage storage service. Coming straight from the airport to a match is a common mistake that results in fans missing kick-off.
Entry Process
The Stadium Entry Process β€” Step by Step
Understanding the entry flow will save you time and stress on matchday. Follow this sequence at every World Cup 2026 stadium.
Step 1 β€” 2 to 3 hours before kick-off
Arrive at the Stadium Perimeter
Gates open 2.5–3 hours before kick-off at all World Cup venues. Arriving early is the single most effective thing you can do to guarantee a stress-free experience. Fan zones, food vendors, and pre-match entertainment are available from gate opening. Do not arrive within 45 minutes of kick-off β€” queues will be extreme.
Gates Open 3hrs Before Queues Peak 60min Before
Step 2 β€” Outer Perimeter Check
Ticket & ID Verification
Before you even reach the security search, stewards will check your ticket and photo ID. Your ID must exactly match the name on your ticket β€” no exceptions. Ensure your ticket is accessible on your phone with screen brightness maximised, or have your printed ticket ready. Fumbling with a dead phone battery in the queue is avoidable.
Passport / ID Required Digital Ticket Accepted Name Must Match Exactly
Step 3 β€” Security Search Zone
Bag Inspection & Body Search
All bags are physically searched. All fans pass through a metal detector or body scanner. Remove your belt, watch, keys, and any metal items before you reach the scanner to avoid delays. Security staff may conduct a brief pat-down β€” this is standard procedure. Prohibited items will be confiscated with no storage option available. Do not argue with security staff.
Metal Detector / Body Scanner No Prohibited Items
Step 4 β€” Inner Gate
Ticket Scan & Final Entry
Your digital or printed ticket barcode is scanned at the turnstile. Ensure your QR code is loaded on your phone before you get to this point β€” not while you're standing at the scanner. Each ticket can only be scanned once. If your ticket was already scanned (counterfeit tickets are a real problem) you will be turned away. Staff will direct you to your seating section after entry.
One Scan Per Ticket Staff Direct You to Seat
Step 5 β€” Inside the Stadium
Find Your Seat & Enjoy
Concession stands, merchandise shops, and facilities are available inside. Food and drink purchased inside the stadium may be brought to your seat. Alcohol sales vary by stadium and host city β€” see stadium-specific rules below. Your seat number is on your ticket β€” confirm section, row, and seat number before sitting. Unoccupied seats do not mean you can move to them.

Code of Conduct
Behaviour Rules Inside the Stadium
FIFA operates a zero-tolerance policy for discriminatory, violent, or dangerous behaviour. Violations result in immediate ejection and may result in a permanent ban from all future FIFA events.
Zero Tolerance: Discrimination
Racist, homophobic, xenophobic, or any other discriminatory language, chants, gestures, or displays will result in immediate ejection and possible arrest. FIFA observers are present at every match specifically to identify violations. This includes chants that are traditional in your country but considered discriminatory internationally.
Zero Tolerance: Pyrotechnics
Setting off flares, smoke bombs, or fireworks inside a stadium carries immediate criminal charges β€” not just ejection. In the USA and Canada, this is treated as a fire hazard felony. In Mexico, criminal prosecution is also standard. Multiple UK and European fans have received travel bans from their home football associations for such incidents.
Stay in Your Assigned Seat
World Cup tickets are seat-specific, not section-specific. You must sit in the exact seat on your ticket. Moving to empty seats is not permitted and stewards will relocate you. Standing in seated sections is not permitted during play β€” this blocks other fans' views and is enforced strictly at NFL/soccer stadiums.
No Commercial Recording
Personal photos and video for personal use are permitted. Streaming matches live, selling footage, or creating content for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited under FIFA broadcasting rights. Social media posts are fine β€” live-streaming entire match sequences is a copyright violation.
Respect Medical & Accessibility Needs
Do not obstruct emergency access aisles. If another fan appears to be in medical distress, alert a steward immediately β€” don't try to manage it yourself. Accessibility areas are reserved for fans with disabilities. Using these areas without need is a conduct violation.
Child Safety Rules
Children must be accompanied by a named adult whose name appears on the ticket. Children under 14 cannot hold individual tickets β€” they must be listed as an accompanying guest on an adult's booking. Unaccompanied children will be escorted to the family welfare area.
Re-Entry Policy
Re-entry to the stadium after leaving is not permitted at most World Cup venues. Once you leave, your ticket is void for re-entry. Check venue-specific rules β€” a small number of stadiums permit re-entry with the same ticket within a defined window. Assume no re-entry unless confirmed by your specific venue.
Smoking & Vaping
All 16 World Cup 2026 stadiums are entirely smoke-free, including e-cigarettes and vapes. Designated outdoor smoking areas are provided outside the stadium perimeter only. Smoking inside the bowl, concourses, or restrooms will result in immediate ejection. In the USA and Canada, stadium smoking violations can also attract municipal fines.
Political Displays & Protests
FIFA regulations prohibit political messages, displays, banners, or protests inside match venues. This includes flags or symbols associated with political movements, conflicts, or causes. The rule is content-neutral β€” it applies to all political positions equally. Security will ask you to remove or cover political displays before considering ejection.
Ejection & Ban Policy
FIFA maintains a centralised ban database. Fans ejected for discriminatory behaviour, pyrotechnics, or violence at any 2026 World Cup match can be permanently banned from attending all future FIFA events worldwide. This ban is separate from any criminal proceedings by local police. It is enforced via ticket registration data at all future FIFA ticketing systems.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
The most common questions about attending a World Cup 2026 match.
No. All three Mexican host stadiums (Estadio Azteca, Estadio Akron, and Estadio BBVA) are entirely alcohol-free inside. This is not a FIFA decision β€” it is Mexican federal and state law governing events at public stadiums. There are no exceptions for VIP areas or premium hospitality suites. Alcohol purchased outside must not be brought in. Beer is widely available in the fan zones outside the perimeter before and after the match.
You will be refused entry. FIFA 2026 tickets are non-transferable and linked to the named purchaser. The name on your ticket must exactly match your government-issued ID. Minor discrepancies (abbreviations, missing middle names) may be resolved by a supervisor, but this is at the discretion of individual security staff and cannot be guaranteed. If your name was entered incorrectly during purchase, contact FIFA customer support as soon as possible β€” corrections closer to matchday become progressively harder to process.
In most cases, no. The majority of World Cup 2026 venues operate a no re-entry policy β€” once you exit the stadium, your ticket is void for re-entry. Some venues permit re-entry within a limited time window in certain circumstances, but this is venue-specific. Assume no re-entry unless you have confirmed otherwise with your specific stadium. If you need to leave for a medical reason, alert a steward before exiting β€” they may be able to assist without voiding your access.
This is one of the most common matchday problems. Prevention: carry a portable power bank (allowed in stadiums) and charge your phone before you leave your hotel. Solution if it happens: look for a FIFA fan services point near the stadium perimeter β€” they can sometimes assist with ticket verification using your booking reference and ID. The safest approach is to always print a physical backup of your ticket before travelling to the stadium. A printed ticket is always accepted alongside a digital one.
Yes. All 16 World Cup 2026 stadiums are required to meet FIFA and local accessibility standards. Each venue has designated accessible entrances with wider lanes, wheelchair-accessible seating areas, accessible restrooms, and assistance staff. Fans requiring accessibility support should contact FIFA's accessibility team when purchasing tickets to ensure appropriate seating is allocated. Service animals are permitted with advance registration and official documentation β€” contact your specific stadium's accessibility coordinator.
Small action cameras without chest or head mounts are generally permitted for personal use. Chest-mount harnesses for GoPro-style cameras are specifically prohibited at most venues as they are considered professional recording equipment. Selfie sticks are not permitted. Personal video for social media posting is acceptable β€” extended live streaming of match footage violates FIFA's broadcasting rights and is not permitted. When in doubt, contact the venue directly before matchday.
Alert the nearest steward or security officer immediately β€” do not intervene physically. Stewards are positioned throughout all seating sections and respond quickly. If the situation appears dangerous (weapons, severe violence), move away from the area and call out to security loudly. All stadiums have dedicated security control rooms monitoring CCTV β€” incidents are typically detected quickly. FIFA has also deployed dedicated fan safety teams at all 16 venues for the 2026 tournament.
